Training for Veterinarians in Translational Research and Animal Models of Human Disease
As veterinarians and trainers of veterinary scientists, we have a strong appreciation for the importance of veterinarians in biomedical research. Because of our training in whole-animal biology and our broad understanding of the range of physiology and pathology across species, genera, families, and orders of animals, veterinarians are uniquely suited to research linking basic mechanisms with practical applications in human medicine.
The ULAM program in translational research and animal models combines the resources of a department of comparative medicine in a major research university. Highlights of training include:
- Cutting edge basic and translational research in one of the nation’s respected medical research institutions
- A faculty of veterinary researchers with experience and interest in training veterinarians for independent research careers
- Training opportunities in microbiology, immunology, pathology, epidemiology, and surgery, among others
- Access to comprehensive resources including facilities for all types of animal care and use and numerous research cores
- A nationally recognized PhD degree granting program
- Culture of research excellence and enthusiastic collaboration in a scientifically and culturally diverse faculty and student population
